Job summary

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certification on Accreditation of Ophthalmic Medical Programs or graduate from medical assistant program is preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of Ophthalmic Assistant experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of ocular terminology and pharmacology is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate patient evaluation by documenting chief complaint and history accurately.
  • Perform visual acuity assessment, refraction, color vision testing, tonometry, and related patient services.
  • Assist with specialized testing like visual fields, OCT, ophthalmic photography and biometry.
  • Assist physicians with lasers and procedural tray setups.
  • Assist with instillation of eyedrops and ointments as needed.
  • Maintain infection control standards in exam and procedure rooms.
  • Stock and maintain exam and testing rooms; ensure equipment is functioning properly.
  • Triage messages and follow up with clinical phone encounters promptly.
  • Assist with prior authorizations and appeals as needed.
  • Maintain patient records and office correspondence.
  • Provide training and assistance as needed.
