Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support clinicians in patient care, documenting histories, performing vision tests, dilations, and assisting with procedures while maintaining infection control and accurate records.

This role requires a high school diploma (or equivalent), ophthalmic certification preferred, and at least one year of ophthalmic assistant experience; the position is full-time, on-site at Brown Health Medical Group in Providence, RI with a Monday–Friday

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification on Accreditation of Ophthalmic Medical Programs or graduate from medical assistant program preferred.
• Minimum of one year of ophthalmic assistant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Document chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems and ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines.
• Perform visual acuity assessment, refraction, color vision testing, lensometry, pupillary evaluation, ocular motility, tonometry, dilation and other patient services requested by the provider.
• Perform specialized testing such as visual fields, OCT, ophthalmic photography, corneal topography, specular microscopy, A-scan ultrasound biometry and IOL calculations.
• Assist physicians with lasers and procedural tray setups and with instillation of eyedrops and ointments.
• Set up and clean examination and procedure rooms following infection control standards; maintain stocking and upkeep of rooms.
