Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification on Accreditation of Ophthalmic Medical Programs or graduation from a medical assistant program preferred.
• Minimum of one year ophthalmic assistant experience preferred.
• Demonstrates knowledge of ocular terminology and pharmacology.

Responsibilities

• Initiates patient evaluation by documenting chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and ocular findings per guidelines.
• Performs visual acuity assessment, refraction, color vision testing, lensometry, pupil evaluation, ocular motility, tonometry, dilation, and other patient services as requested.
• Assists physicians with lasers and procedural tray setups; instills eyedrops and ointments as needed.
• Maintains infection control standards when setting up and cleaning exam and procedure rooms; stocks and maintains rooms.
• Triages messages and follows up with clinical phone encounters; handles prior authorizations and appeals; maintains patient records and correspondence.
