Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support ophthalmologists with patient care in a fast-paced clinic. You will take histories, perform tests, and prepare patients for examination while assisting in office administrative support duties.

Responsibilities include pre-testing, imaging, and procedural setup, along with infection control and patient records management. Training and collaboration with the team are emphasized to ensure efficient patient flow.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification on Accreditation of Ophthalmic Medical Programs or graduate from medical assistant program preferred.
  • Minimum of one year ophthalmic assistant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate patient evaluation by documenting chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and ocular findings.
  • Perform visual acuity assessment, refraction, color vision testing, lensometry, pupillary evaluation, ocular motility, tonometry, pupillary dilation, and other patient services requested by the provider.
  • Assist physicians with lasers and procedural tray setups.
  • Assist with instillation of eyedrops and ointments as needed.
  • Set up and clean examination and procedure rooms following infection control standards.
