Job summary

Vance Thompson Vision is seeking a Part-Time Ophthalmic Assistant to support patient workups, run preliminary tests, and maintain efficient exam lanes. You will perform vision testing and diagnostic procedures while assisting the OD/MD and ensuring a smooth patient flow.

The role emphasizes strong organizational skills, clear communication, and a positive attitude to deliver an excellent patient experience in a busy ophthalmology clinic located in Alexandria, MN.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• AAO home study preferred.
• Experience in patient care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient workups and preliminary tests (visual acuity, history, lensometry).
• Conduct diagnostic tests (keratometry, topography, tonometry, pachymetry, visual fields).
• Monitor schedules and medical records to optimize patient flow and coordinate with OD/MD.

You Will Make an Impact By:

• Performing patient workups and preliminary tests including visual acuity, patient history, lensometry and other tests in accordance with protocol.
• Performing various diagnostic tests as directed, including but not limited to keratometry, topography, tonometry, pachymetry, and visual fields as indicated.
• Facilitates efficient patient flow by monitoring schedules, patient medical records, and potential schedule conflicts; resolves and communicates with OD/MD as necessary.
• Triagepatient phone calls by answering questions and resolving concerns as directed to achieve patient satisfaction.
• Ensure the opening, closing, maintenance, and stocking of exam lanes, and maintain orderly work areas.
• Sending prescriptions to patients’ pharmacies as requested by the doctor, and handling prior authorization requests as needed.
• Participating in regular team meetings to ensure effective team and inter-department communications.
• Actively participating in ongoing professional self-development to enhance training and skills.

You Have:

• A high school diploma or equivalent
• Preferred experience and/or training with completion of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) home study.
• Preferred experience in patient care.
