Vance Thompson Vision is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support our eye care team in providing high-quality patient care in South Sioux City, Nebraska. The role involves performing patient workups, preliminary tests, and various diagnostic procedures under supervision.

Qualifications

• AAO home study or related training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient workups and preliminary tests per protocol (visual acuity, history).
• Conduct diagnostic tests such as keratometry, topography, tonometry, pachymetry, and visual fields as directed.
• Support efficient patient flow by monitoring schedules and records, communicating with OD/MD.

Job Opportunity

We are growing and we are looking for an Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team!

Responsibilities

• Performing patient workups and preliminary tests including visual acuity, patient history, lensometry and other tests in accordance with protocol.
• Performing various diagnostic tests as directed, but not limited to, keratometry, topography, tonometry, pachymetry and visual fields as indicated.
• Facilitating efficient patient flow by monitoring schedules, patient medical records, and potential schedule conflicts; resolving and communicating with OD/MD as necessary.
• Triaging patient phone calls by answering questions and resolving concerns as directed to achieve patient satisfaction.
• Ensuring the opening, closing, maintenance and stocking of exam lanes and maintaining order in work areas.
• Sending prescriptions to patients’ pharmacies as requested by the doctor, and handling prior authorization requests as needed.
• Participating in regular team meetings and reporting team progress to ensure effective team and inter-department communication.
• Actively participating in ongoing professional self‑development to enhance training and skills.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience and/or training with completion of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) home study preferred.
• Previous patient care experience preferred.
