Job summary

AtriusHealth, part of the UnitedHealth Group family, seeks an Ophthalmic Assistant in Plymouth, MA. You will support clinicians with ophthalmic testing, patient prep, and minor procedures at 28 eastern Massachusetts sites.

Primary duties include patient history, vision testing, and instrument handling. Certification planning, EMR proficiency, and willingness to travel between locations are required. Competitive benefits and a growth path within Optum’s network are offered.

Qualifications

• Willing to obtain COA certification within two years of hire.
• Proven general medical knowledge and ability to take medical history.
• Familiar with basic visual testing and diagnostic procedures.
• EMR experience or aptitude to learn EMR-based systems.
• Ability to travel between locations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Greet and escort patients, collect comprehensive ocular and medical history, document in EMR.
• Perform vision tests and preliminary ophthalmic assessments (slit lamp, tonometry, OCT, visual fields).
• Assist with minor procedures, apply eye dressings, maintain sterile technique.
• Operate and troubleshoot ophthalmic equipment and lasers, ensure instrument readiness and cleanliness.
• Educate patients on medications/procedures and support administrative duties as needed.
