Job summary

Beekman Rooftop LLC dba Ophelia Lounge in New York, NY seeks a part-time Host/Hostess. You will warmly greet guests, assist with reservations and seating, and ensure smooth front-of-house operations. You will input online orders, manage seating to guest preferences, and maintain a welcoming environment.

The role involves standing for long periods, strong interpersonal and telephone skills, and a flexible, guest-focused approach. Multilingual abilities are a plus.

Qualifications

• No previous restaurant experience or training required. On the job training will be provided. Experience is a plus.
• Must be a team player and demonstrate organizational skills.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and confidence.
• Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 10 hours).
• Excellent verbal and telephone skills to communicate clearly and effectively with guests.
• Must have exceptional grooming habits.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
• Fluency in other languages are a plus.
• Be flexible and willing to assist as needed to ensure all restaurant standards are met.

Responsibilities

• Warmly and graciously greets all guests upon arrival.
• Open front door for guests entering or leaving the restaurant when possible.
• Record guest names and party size when immediate seating is limited.
• Call out name and/or party number when tables become available.
• Provide guests with estimated waiting time; maintain professionalism with difficult guests.
• Accommodate special seating requests when possible.
• Seat guests based on preferences and flow of service stations.
• Offer menu and announce server's name upon seating; ensure table is properly presented.
• Relay messages to servers and bussers as needed.
• Maintain mints and toothpicks at host stand.
• Clean menus of stains and debris.
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager on duty.
• Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
• Relay guest feedback to manager on duty.
• Explain restaurant concept to guests.
• Give directions to the restaurant when asked.
• Input online orders into POS and review OpenTable reservations.

Summary of Position

Welcome and warmly greet guests on arrival. Answer telephone, take reservations, input online orders, and manage the efficient and timely seating of guest to a table that best serves their wishes.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Warmly and graciously greets all guests upon arrival.
• When possible, open front door for guests entering or leaving the restaurant.
• When immediate seating is limited, records guest names and number of people in party.
• Call out name and/ or number of party when tables become available.
• Provides guests with estimated waiting time, always maintaining a professional, courteous attitude when confronted with hostile, impatient or irate guests.
• Accommodate special seating requests for guests whenever possible.
• Seat guests based on guest preferences and balancing of customer flow in service stations.
• Upon seating, offer guests a menu and inform them of their servers name. Inspect table for proper presentation and completeness.
• Relay messages to servers and bussers as needed.
• Maintain supplies of mints and toothpicks at the host stand.
• Clean menus of food and stains.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the manager on duty.
• Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
• Relay guest comments or suggestions to the manager on duty.
• Explain the restaurant concept to guests.
• Give directions to the restaurant to guest inquiring for it.
• Input online orders into the POS.
• Review and confirm online reservations through OpenTable.
