Job summary

Union Square Hospitality Group’s Porchlight in Chelsea seeks a friendly Host to be the first impression for guests, guiding seating and assisting with reservations and inquiries. You’ll coordinate with the Maître D and kitchen to ensure smooth service and guest satisfaction in a fast-paced environment.

We value warmth, hospitality, and teamwork; the Host supports Enlightened Hospitality while maintaining efficiency, flexible hours, and a positive guest experience.

Qualifications

  • Guest-facing service experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of OpenTable functions.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • English fluency; additional languages optional.

Responsibilities

  • Be the first friendly point of contact for guests and visitors.
  • Coordinate seatings with Maître D and update the dining room as needed.
  • Quote accurate wait times and assist guests in finding a “yes.”
  • Answer guest inquiries about hours, menus, reservations, and operations.
  • Act as liaison among guests, management, service staff and kitchen.
  • Maintain composure and urgency to deliver excellent service.
  • Demonstrate a passion for guest experience and willingness to learn.
  • Support a culture of Enlightened Hospitality across the team.

Porchlight, from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, is a true New York neighborhood bar. Since 2015, we've focused on serving up cold drinks with warm hospitality. American bar fare, classic cocktails, live music and good times in the heart of Chelsea. Come on in!

Who you are:

The Host is a vital member of the Service team as the first impression and point of contact with every guest and visitor at the restaurant. The Host must exude warmth and hospitality and is a partner to the Maître D’ in plotting, planning, and updating the dining room to efficiently coordinate seatings throughout each service.

What you’ll do:

  • Consistently support a culture of Enlightened Hospitality
  • Create a welcoming and hospitable environment for guests whether in person or over the phone.
  • Partner with Maître D’ to quote accurate wait times while “finding the yes” for all guests.
  • Properly answer guest inquiries with regards to restaurant hours of operation and basic operational information,menus,and reservations.
  • Act as a liaison between the guest, management, service staff and kitchen and communicate accordingly.
  • Work with efficiency and a sense of urgency while remaining composed.
  • Demonstrates a passion for guest experience and an eagerness to learn and grow.
  • Consistently support a culture of Enlightened Hospitality.

What we need from you:

  • Experience in a guest facing role in a restaurant preferred, but not necessary
  • Basic understanding of OpenTable functions
  • Ability to walk or stand for long periods of time
  • English fluency and additional languages preferred, but not required
