Job summary

Wenger Manufacturing Inc in Kansas is seeking a Grinder to join an area team. The role involves grinding, sanding, cleaning, and polishing parts to meet specifications using hand and power tools, and preparing surfaces for finishing.

Responsibilities

  • Deburr, buff or polish materials to specifications.
  • Examine materials to ensure conformance to standards.
  • Verify quality of finished workpieces by inspecting, measuring, or testing.
  • Select files or abrasives according to materials, sizes and finishes.
  • Measure and mark equipment, objects, or parts to meet standards.
  • Study blueprints or layouts to lay out workpieces or templates.
  • Record product and processing data on forms.
  • Complete required paperwork.
  • Saw/Heat treat and sandblast parts.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
  • Manufacturing environment: may be exposed to loud noises and moving parts.
  • Standing on a concrete floor.
  • Wearing PPE (face shield, ear plugs, safety shoes, long sleeves).
  • Bending, stooping, twisting, standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.

Job description

Grinder employees function as a member of an area team that is directly responsible for the efficient production of quality products in the required quantities. The primary responsibility of a Grinder is to grind, sand, clean, or polish objects or parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing, using hand tools and power tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deburr, buff or polish materials to specifications
  • Examine materials to ensure conformance to establish standards.
  • Verify quality of finished workpieces by inspecting them, comparing them to templates, measuring their dimensions, or testing them in working machinery.
  • Select files or other abrasives, according to materials, sizes and shapes of workpieces, amount of stock to be removed, finishes specified, and steps in finishing processes.
  • Measure and mark equipment, objects, or parts to ensure grinding and polishing standards are met.
  • Study blueprints or layouts to determine how to lay out workpieces or saw out templates.
  • Record product and processing data on specified forms.
  • Complete the required paperwork.
  • Saw/Heat treat and sandblast parts.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
  • Manufacturing environment: may be exposed to loud noises, machinery with moving parts
  • Standing on a concrete floor
  • Wearing proper personal protective equipment (face shield, ear plugs, safety shoes, and long sleeve or sleeved apron)
  • Bending, stooping, twist, turn, standing for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50lbs occasionally without assistance.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have a High school diploma, GED or equivalent education
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Ability and willingness to follow directions as well as the ability to work independently
  • Self-motivated
  • Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in the English language
