Job description

Objective

Centerless Grinder operator sets up and operates precision grinding equipment to grind lot parts in accordance with established shop practices. Performs work operations under supervision.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Set-up and operate precision grinding equipment within machine capacity and capability.
• Have knowledge of grinding TD, angle head and button head parts and understand head protrusion gauging.
• Perform hand feeding using a head stop for profile grinding.
• Set up and troubleshoot loading system for the auto grinders.
• Select tooling and fixtures for the grinding operation.
• Inspect parts for quality and tolerance using measuring tools such as micrometers, gauge blocks, protrusion gauge, millimetre gauge, calipers, and comparators.
• Determine proper feed and speed combination.
• Record piece count and run time of production.
• Recognize improper machine functioning and make required adjustments if possible.
• Read and interpret blueprints and overlays.
• Use SPC and shop floor data collection systems.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Skills and Formal Training Requirements/Experience

• Read, comprehend, and execute directions from mechanical drawings.
• Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
