Overview
Grinder employees are part of an area team responsible for the efficient production of quality products in the required quantities. They grind, sand, clean, or polish objects or parts to correct defects or prepare surfaces for further finishing, using hand tools and power tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Deburr, buff or polish materials to specifications
- Examine materials to ensure conformance to established standards
- Verify quality of finished workpieces by inspecting them, comparing them to templates, measuring their dimensions, or testing them in working machinery
- Select files or other abrasives according to materials, sizes and shapes of workpieces, amount of stock to be removed, finishes specified, and steps in finishing processes
- Measure and mark equipment, objects, or parts to ensure grinding and polishing standards are met
- Study blueprints or layouts to determine how to lay out workpieces or saw out templates
- Record product and processing data on specified forms
- Complete required paperwork
- Saw, heat treat, and sandblast parts
- Follow all safety policies and procedures
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned
Physical/Environmental Requirements
- Working in a manufacturing environment that may expose employees to loud noises, machinery with moving parts
- Standing on a concrete floor
- Wearing proper personal protective equipment (face shield, ear plugs, safety shoes, long sleeve or sleeved apron)
- Performing bending, stooping, twisting, turning, standing for extended periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50lbs occasionally without assistance
Minimum Qualifications
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent education
- Working knowledge of computers
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Ability and willingness to follow directions as well as work independently
- Self‑motivated
- Willingness and ability to work variable shifts and schedules
- Ability to understand and effectively communicate in English
