Job Description: Operations Supervisor at Penske Logistics

Penske Logistics is seeking a proven leader with relevant experience to join our team of transportation and logistics professionals. We are looking for a candidate to supervise drivers at one of our locations.

The Operations Supervisor provides leadership at a single location, guiding staff to meet customer requirements while achieving Penske's goals and objectives.

Position Summary:

Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce to ensure the execution of daily tasks including driver deliveries, loading/unloading trailers, and customer service, in alignment with company standards and cost objectives. Supervise processes directly, including workforce and equipment scheduling, and manage performance, including corrective actions and disciplinary measures. Participate in hiring and customer meetings as needed.

Shift:

Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Leaders should arrive 30 minutes prior to shift start. Flexibility required for peak seasons, holidays, and business needs.

Salary:

The role is bonus eligible based on performance, with potential earnings up to 12% of base salary.

Major Responsibilities:
People:
  • Ensure all supervisors and associates are trained, competent, and understand their impact on customer objectives.
  • Communicate performance standards that are specific and measurable.
  • Participate in hiring processes and monitor attendance and productivity.
  • Motivate and recognize team accomplishments.
Operations:
  • Supervise logistics operations, including customer service, freight handling, dispatch, and documentation.
  • Conduct team meetings and evaluate work methods for efficiency.
  • Assist in training new associates and provide operational coverage as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of site systems for compliance and issue resolution.
  • Complete records and reports accurately and timely.
Finance:
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, including tracking MPG, damages, and returns.
  • Manage work hours to minimize overtime and meet productivity targets.
Safety:
  • Align daily activities with safety strategies.
  • Provide safety training, feedback, and conduct observations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
Growth / Customer Experience:
  • Meet and exceed customer goals and objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Fleet/Assets:
  • Plan work to optimize fleet use.
  • Ensure safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendors and leasing companies for maintenance schedules.
Job Qualifications:
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently with good time management.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience in process improvement and change leadership.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor's preferred.
  • Regular attendance and willingness to travel as needed.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Visual and auditory capabilities necessary for job functions.
