Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT is seeking an Operations Supervisor - Pipe Hanger Welding to oversee a team of 10-15 hanger welders, ensuring safety, quality, cost and schedule targets are met in shipyard production environments.

The successful candidate will lead weld teams, mentor staff, and coordinate with engineering, management and quality groups to drive continuous improvement and on-time delivery for critical hull systems.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 3+ years of trade, manufacturing, and/or military experience.
• Structural, pipefitting and/or welding experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the activities of approximately 10-15 hanger welding employees in the performance of welding of hangers on hull to support ships systems.
• Coach and Mentor welders to establish a driven and skilled workforce.
• Primary point of contact to interface with engineering, ship's management, quality and other trade departments.
• Lead the team to achievement of company goals for safety, quality, cost, schedule and continuous improvement.
• Take ownership of team performance.

Overview

The successful candidate must provide technical assistance and overall direction to a team of hourly representative employees. Core to this position is the successful performance of the team's safety, quality, cost, schedule and continuous improvement.

This position of Operations Supervisor provides a platform to gain a working knowledge of various manufacturing environments and their relationships with other parts of Electric Boat business. Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• 3+ years of trade, manufacturing, and or military experience

Preferred Qualifications

• College/technical school AS/BS degree
• Previous supervisory experience
• Previous related Military/Navy experience
• Knowledge of VIRIGINA or CLB submarines

Skills

• Have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, procedures, and related reference documents
• Have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with subordinates and supervisors
• Must be able to work all assigned shifts
• Must be able to work extended hours
• Applicant must obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance as a condition of employment
• Capable of reading, interpreting and putting into effect plans, procedures and instructions
• Good presentation skills and attention to detail preferred
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Power Point preferred
