Responsibilities

• Lead activities of ~15 Pipewelders in purging, welding and inspecting pipe joints on submarines.
• Interface with Engineering, Ships Management, Quality and other trades.
• Drive safety, quality, cost, schedule and process improvement goals.
• Own team performance and assign work with mentorship and performance assessments.
• Lead self-assessment audits and maintain documentation and schedules.
• Participate in administrative duties such as LMS and quality records.

Job description

The successful candidate must provide technical assistance and overall direction to a team of hourly representative employees. Core to this position is the successful performance of the team's Safety, Quality, Cost, schedule and Continuous Improvement. Effective communication, leadership, and creating a positive team environment with employees and peers are key to success for the selected candidate. The position of Operations Supervisor provides a platform to gain a working knowledge of various manufacturing environments and their relationships with other parts of Electric Boat's business. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer or experienced trades-person to advance into a career-building leadership position and gain invaluable experience to support their career development.

Roles And Responsibilities

• Lead the activities of approximately 15 Pipewelders in the performance of purging, welding and inspecting Pipe Joints on board submarines
• Primary point of contact to interface with Engineering, Ships Management, Quality and other trade departments
• Lead the team to achievement of company goals for Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule and Process Improvement
• Take ownership of team performance
• Assign work, provide technical expertise, instruction, mentorship, motivation and performance assessment of your Employee(s) while working aboard submarines under construction and repair
• Lead self-assessment audits, commit to schedules and maintain product quality
• Attend various administrative responsibility, such as LMS, Quality documentation, work completion documentation, etc.
• May be required to qualify and maintain Nuclear Trade and PRCS training

Required

• High School Diploma or GED
• Pipe Welding experience, including welding with consumable inserts
• Must be able to work all shifts and travel as required

Must Meet One Of The Following

• Minimum 1 year trade experience at electric boat
• Minimum 3 years combined relevant experience and leadership experience in a high-volume setting
• Minimum of 1 year EB experience and an Engineering degree in a related field

Preferred

• BS in Engineering
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• 1+ years of tig welding experience
• Knowledge of management tools (i.e., MRP, Artemis, EWP or other EB specific tools)

• Ability to analyze performance data, formulate process improvement ideas and continuously improve performance
• Ability to communicate with all levels of the workforce and management
