Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT is seeking an Operations Supervisor Pipe Welding to lead a team of approximately 15 pipe welders aboard submarines, directing purging, welding and inspection activities with a strong emphasis on safety and quality.

You will interface with Engineering, Ships Management and Quality, drive cost, schedule and continuous improvement, and mentor crew while working on submarines under construction and repair.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Pipe welding experience, including welding with consumable inserts.
• Ability to work all shifts and travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the activities of approximately 15 Pipewelders in the performance of purging, welding and inspecting Pipe Joints on board submarines.
• Primary point of contact to interface with Engineering, Ships Management, Quality and other trade departments.
• Lead the team to achievement of company goals for Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule and Process Improvement.
• Take ownership of team performance.
• Assign work, provide technical expertise, instruction, mentorship, motivation and performance assessment of your Employee(s) while working aboard submarines under construction and repair.
• Lead self-assessment audits, commit to schedules and maintain product quality.
• Attend various administrative responsibility, such as LMS, Quality documentation, work completion documentation, etc.
• May be required to qualify and maintain Nuclear Trade and PRCS training

Operations Supervisor Pipe Welding

Location: US-CT-Groton

Seat Location: EB Groton Shipyard

The successful candidate must provide technical assistance and overall direction to a team of hourly representative employees. Core to this position is the successful performance of the team's Safety, Quality, Cost, schedule and Continuous Improvement. Effective communication, leadership, and creating a positive team environment with employees and peers are key to success for the selected candidate. The position of Operations Supervisor provides a platform to gain a working knowledge of various manufacturing environments and their relationships with other parts of Electric Boat's business. Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Pipe Welding experience, including welding with consumable inserts
• Must be able to work all shifts and travel as required

Must meet one of the following:

• Minimum 1 year trade experience at electric boat
• Minimum 3 years combined relevant experience and leadership experience in a high-volume setting
• Minimum of 1 year EB experience and an Engineering degree in a related field

Preferred:

• BS in Engineering
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• 1+ years of tig welding experience
• Knowledge of management tools (i.e., MRP, Artemis, EWP or other EB specific tools)
