Job summary

Breakwater Initiative is seeking an Operations Manager to build the backbone of a new nonprofit. You will oversee finance, HR, IT, facilities, and legal/compliance as we transition from a fiscally sponsored project to independent entities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in operations, finance, or administration.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
• Familiarity with fiscal sponsorship, nonprofit compliance, or standing up a new legal entity is a strong plus.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work across functions.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day financial operations and manage relationship with the fiscal sponsor.
• Coordinate HR onboarding, payroll, compensation, and benefits integration.
• Lead IT, security, and facilities alignment with sponsor requirements and Breakwater's standards.
• Draft and manage contracts with consultants, vendors, and partners; ensure compliance.
• Plan for organizational independence, including 501(c)(3)/501(c)(4) readiness and related filings.
• Support adaptive, founder-friendly operations across evolving needs.
