This is a direct hire, full-time onsite position based in Seattle, WA.

Position Overview:

As the Operations Manager – Ocean Import, you will lead and manage the end-to-end process of importing goods via ocean freight. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable customs regulations, coordinating logistics with freight forwarders and customs authorities, and ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of shipments to their final destinations. You will play a key role in maintaining the smooth flow of international goods while optimizing operational performance and customer satisfaction.

Job Description:

  • Monitor all operational activities to ensure successful performance and high levels of customer service.
  • Prioritize and manage time-sensitive shipments to meet deadlines.
  • Serve as the first level of escalation for customer issues and work toward prompt resolution.
  • Ensure required Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are adhered to within the department.
  • Assist in planning and executing new customer implementations, ensuring smooth onboarding and compliance.
  • Oversee daily shipping and receiving functions across multiple accounts.
  • Plan, organize, and streamline daily operations to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Assist in the preparation, review, and updating of the organization’s operations manual and policy documents.
  • Determine staffing needs and manage workloads to maintain service quality and operational continuity.
  • Organize and oversee team schedules and daily responsibilities, ensuring adequate coverage and performance.
  • Train, mentor, and support new employees to ensure effective onboarding and integration into the team.
  • Conduct timely and constructive performance evaluations to support employee growth and accountability.
  • Handle employee discipline, coaching, and terminations as necessary, in compliance with company policies and HR best practices.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment aligned with the company’s mission and goals.
  • Perform additional related duties and projects as required to support business goals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of International Transportation regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of ocean imports and exports for FCL/LCL cargo.
  • Knowledge of SGL Operations and internal processes.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and ability to problem solve.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of industry experience, including at least 2 years specifically managing ocean import operations.
  • At least 2 years of proven leadership experience, overseeing teams and driving operational performance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Work Authorization/security Clearance Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must pass TSA eligibility screening

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule:8-hour shift (Monday to Friday)
