Position Overview
As the Operations Manager – Ocean Import, you will lead and manage the end-to-end process of importing goods via ocean freight. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable customs regulations, coordinating logistics with freight forwarders and customs authorities, and ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of shipments to their final destinations. You will play a key role in maintaining the smooth flow of international goods while optimizing operational performance and customer satisfaction.
Job Responsibilities
- Monitor all operational activities to ensure successful performance and high levels of customer service.
- Prioritize and manage time-sensitive shipments to meet deadlines.
- Serve as the first level of escalation for customer issues and work toward prompt resolution.
- Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Assist in planning and executing new customer implementations, ensuring smooth onboarding and compliance.
- Oversee daily shipping and receiving functions across multiple accounts.
- Plan, organize, and streamline daily operations to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Assist in updating the organization’s operations manual and policy documents.
- Determine staffing needs and manage workloads to maintain service quality.
- Organize and oversee team schedules and responsibilities.
- Train, mentor, and support new employees.
- Conduct performance evaluations and handle employee discipline as needed.
- Foster a positive team environment aligned with company goals.
- Perform additional duties as required to support business objectives.
Qualifications
- Strong leadership, communication, and empowerment skills.
- Knowledge of international transportation regulations and procedures.
- Strong understanding of ocean imports and exports for FCL/LCL cargo.
- Knowledge of SGL Operations and internal processes.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Education and Experience
- Minimum 3 years of industry experience, including at least 2 years managing ocean import operations.
- At least 2 years of proven leadership experience overseeing teams and driving performance.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Prolonged sitting and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift 15 pounds.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. and pass TSA screening.
Position Details
- Type: Full-time
- Schedule: 8-hour shift, Monday to Friday
- Location: On-site in Seattle, WA
- Salary: $90,000 - $100,000 annually
