Job summary

The Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford, CT seeks an organized Operations Manager to oversee retail business operations, streamline processes, and support the store, ecommerce site, and cafe. You will work with the Director of Retail to drive efficiency and excellent customer service.

Candidates must have extensive Shopify knowledge, inventory management, reporting, and app integrations; plus retail management experience, staff supervision, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• BA or BS in a discipline relevant to the museum, business or marketing degree preferred or relevant experience.
• Extensive knowledge of Shopify including inventory management, reporting, and app integrations.
• Strong technology aptitude and ability to quickly learn new software platforms.
• At least one year of experience in a retail management position.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily store operations, ecommerce site and cafe functions including sales, operations, staff supervision, training and development.
• Oversee cash handling, end-of-day reports, and reconciliation; liaise with Finance for deposits and reporting.
• Coach and train retail staff to maintain high levels of customer service and product knowledge.
• Troubleshoot system issues and coordinate with vendors for software and hardware needs.
• Manage inventory across in-store, web store, and Nook Café; ensure stock levels meet demand and promotions.
