Job description

Position Overview

As the Operations Manager at DCA Airport Inland Deicing Services, you will oversee daily operational activities at the assigned station, including hiring and training staff, managing quality assurance programs, and implementing process improvements to ensure timely completion of tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of daily operations and provide leadership and coaching to enhance safety, performance, maintenance, flight operations, facility requirements, and customer service.
  • Conduct station audits, supply information needed for airline reports, and address all airline and FAA questions or concerns.
  • Develop and expand working relationships and communications with the Airport Authority and existing customer base.
  • Communicate regularly on airline manual updates, provide information to employees, and coordinate with the Director on investigations of any security issues, accident reviews, and the safety review and recommendation process for preventing further occurrences.
  • Monitor maintenance on all material handling equipment and provide safety training for all base employees.
Required Skills and Experience
  • BA/BS in a related field of study required; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • Successful completion of required background and clearance requirements.
  • Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience handling operations with demonstrated ability to manage budgets.
  • Professional certifications such as AOSSP/MSP, FAA/TSA, dangerous goods, Air carrier Hazmat, SIDA, and Equipment Certification.
  • Broad airline operational experience covering customer service, operations, maintenance, flight operations, facility requirements, airport management, and safety/regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and airline policies, warehouse procedures, operating station equipment, and aircraft handling procedures.
  • Excellent time management and basic understanding of accounting management principles.
  • Familiarity with converting kilograms to pounds, tariff book usage, and rate application.
  • Intermediate computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Valid driver’s license required; local travel to Washington Dulles International Airport required.
Work Environment
  • Office setting with prolonged periods of seating; continuous computer, keyboard, and mouse use.
  • Warehouse environment: physically strenuous, extended standing, exposure to noise (may be excessive), potentially unpleasant odors, varying temperatures and humidity near heavy moving equipment.
  • Outdoor setting: extended standing, exposure to weather, dust, dirt, fuel fumes, noise, and proximity to heavy equipment and moving vehicles.
Physical Demands
  • Use hands to handle, feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Speak and hear efficiently.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • May be exposed to hazards inherent in airport operations, including noise, vehicles, equipment, and weather, managed with training, protective equipment, and safety procedures.
