Job summary

Terracon’s Lexington office is seeking an Operations Manager to lead the office, shaping projects and team efforts across environmental, geotechnical, materials testing, and laboratory services while driving long‑term growth in Central and Eastern Kentucky.

You will oversee profit/loss, staff, project management, quality and safety, client relations, and new business development, ensuring contracts are fully executed and budgets meet profitability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years’ practice experience, or 12 years’ related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Prior management experience preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
  • Kentucky Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a growing office supporting multiple service lines.
  • Direct profit/loss, staff, projects, quality, and safety oversight.
  • Review contracts and proposals and ensure budgets render profit.
  • Monitor project status and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Coordinate with marketing and CRM for client development.
  • Grow office in line with strategic plan and manage risk.

General Responsibilities

Terracon’s Lexington office is seeking an Operations Manager to lead their office! In this opportunity, your leadership will shape projects; environmental, geotechnical, materials testing, and laboratory teams; and long‑term business growth within the Central and Eastern Kentucky Region. This position offers the opportunity to drive profitability, strengthen client relationships, and foster a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement while making a meaningful impact.

Manage and direct activities of an engineering consulting office. This includes profit/loss management, employee supervision, project management, quality control, health and safety oversight, client relations and development, and new business development. Responsible for general leasehold improvements, project and office equipment, and proper utilization of all personnel. Develop and/or review all contracts and proposals prepared by the office; verify technical and financial provisions and ensure manpower budgets are sufficient to complete the contracted work and render a profit.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities
  • Oversee a growing office supporting multiple service lines.
  • Focus will be directed to management of specific projects, quality, and employee utilization.
  • Review contracts and proposals prepared by office personnel.
  • Monitor job status reports and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Coordinate with divisional marketing, to maintain client contacts in CRM, for future development of new business.
  • Responsible for following requirements of the strategic plan; partner with Director, Regional Operations to grow office in accordance with the strategic plan.
  • Manage risk related to projects. Ensure contracts are signed and fully executed prior to commencing work. Monitor adherence to corporate risk policies and practices. Hold Managers accountable for mitigating or eliminating risk.
  • Communicates safety initiatives, rules and guidelines for Office or Region. Holds Managers and Employees accountable for following safety rules and guidelines.
  • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Ensure best practices are being followed and hold Managers accountable for quality control standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
