Job summary

Tuff Shed Inc. in Richmond, VA is seeking an experienced Operations Manager for the Richmond Factory Store. You will lead the operations team, manage logistics, and ensure high-quality customer service while controlling costs.

This role emphasizes staffing, safety compliance, and contractor relationships to drive store performance and profitability. The position is full-time and on-site at our Richmond location.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.
  • Experience in B2C sales for large-ticket products is a plus.
  • Proven leadership and ability to manage employees and resolve personnel issues.
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and employment laws is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills across all levels including customers and partners.
  • Ability to solve complex business problems with sound judgment.
  • Ability to read, write and understand instructions and reports.
  • Ability to prepare professional written correspondence and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Manage logistics including shipping, receiving, packing, and cross-dock communications.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise operations teams under direction.
  • Oversee daily planning and scheduling of manpower and materials.
  • Resolve warranty issues by reviewing and scheduling work as required to satisfy customers.
  • Maintain staffing levels to maximize production within budget.
  • Lead safety programs and OSHA compliance; conduct safety meetings and inspections.
  • Recruit and onboard subcontractors to contribute to revenue and inspect quality of work.
  • Perform performance evaluations and disciplinary actions as needed.

ABOUT TUFF SHED

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Working directly with the Operations employees
  • Manages the logistics including shipping, receiving, PACK, and communication to the cross docks
  • Under the direction of the DM, recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising the performance of the operations teams
  • Following the direction of the DM, supervise Installation function, reviewing sales orders to ensure financial and logistical criteria have been satisfactorily met
  • Oversee daily planning/scheduling of the Operations team’s manpower and materials
  • Perform customer service duties, such as resolving warranty issues by reviewing and scheduling work to be performed as required to satisfy the customer and fix the Tuff Shed product(s)
  • Assisting the DM with daily, weekly, and monthly corporate document submittals
  • Operates the Factory efficiently and effectively in order to produce the assigned and expected profitably
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels to maximize production and maintain labor costs as budgeted
  • Under the direction of the DM and in conjunction with the Production Manager and/or the Production Foreman, performing fabricator employees’ performance evaluations, as required; also, preparing and conducting fabricator employees’ disciplinary actions and making recommendations to the DM regarding counseling, warnings and/or terminations
  • Ensures that building quality, communication, and customer experience are in alignment with the Company expectations and its impact on the Tuff Shedbrand
  • Manages the Company’s Warranty Program and ensures that it is followed, and any required repairs are conducted in a timelymanner
Safety
  • Performing daily safety walk-through inspections of the Shop area and the Yard
  • Implements and carries out the Company’s Safety Programs and ensures compliance to DOT regulations, including the management of all associatedrecords
  • Preparing, scheduling, and leading store safety meetings, trainings and work-related injury investigations as required by OSHA guidelines and Tuff Shed Safety Department.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are secured, inventoried and maintained, and meet safety requirements
  • Performing monthly cycle counts and ongoing inventory management
  • Certifies the Store’s inventory is accurate by conducting monthly physical inventorycounts
  • Makes sure that all material is ordered in a timely manner, meeting production schedules while minimizing inventorycosts
  • Effectively negotiate and develop relationships with local suppliers to ensure that materials are purchased at or below standardcost
Subcontractor/Installer Relationship
  • Recruits and onboards subcontractors to surpass 35% of the store’s revenuebudget
  • Inspects the quality of work being performed by subcontractors to ensure Tuff Shed finished product quality expectations are met orsurpassed
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high volume production environment, preferred
  • Proven experience in successful business-to-consumer sales in large ticketproducts
  • Proven leadership and relationship building skills, including experience managing employees and resolving employee relationsissues
  • DOT, OSHA, and employment law knowledge highly preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, including customers, business partners, suppliers, co-workers, managers, and the general public
  • Ability to solve complex business problems using sound logic and good judgment
  • Ability to read, write and understand instructions given orally, in writing and in diagram form.
  • Ability to prepare written correspondence and reports which create a professional image for Tuff Shed
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, including customers, business partners, suppliers, co-workers, managers and the general public
  • Ability to use mathematical, accounting and financial tools as they apply to Tuff Shed business
