Job summary

A leading MEP contractor in Virginia is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead a dynamic fabrication operation. The ideal candidate will have over 7 years of experience in manufacturing leadership, focusing on Lean principles and continuous improvement. Responsibilities include managing a large team, improving operational performance, and ensuring quality and efficiency in production. Competitive wages and benefits are offered.

We are looking for an Operations Manager who will lead a dynamic and growing fabrication operation, overseeing 100–150 employees in a high-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment. What you will do:
  • Lead daily operations across multiple fabrication areas to ensure safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals are met.
  • Drive a culture of operational excellence by implementing and sustaining Lean manufacturing and 5S methodologies.
  • Develop and mentor supervisors and front-line leaders, fostering a high-performing and engaged workforce.
  • Manage key performance indicators (KPIs), including productivity, efficiency, quality, on-time delivery, and cost.
  • Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to eliminate waste, reduce variability, and increase throughput.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure smooth production flow and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee production scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation to meet customer demands.
  • Interpret and apply engineering drawings and blueprints to ensure fabrication accuracy and compliance.
  • Utilize data-driven decision-making through Excel-based analysis, KPI dashboards, and PowerPoint reporting.
  • Manage cost performance of the operation and support budgeting, forecasting, and capital project planning.
  • Lead or support special projects to enhance safety, productivity, and overall operational performance.
What we are looking for:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience; fabrication or welding environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading large teams (100+ employees) in a high-mix, fast-paced manufacturing setting.
  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Continuous Improvement principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; capable of building reports and presenting operational metrics.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and blueprints.
  • Welding knowledge or background is a strong plus.
  • Proven ability to drive measurable improvements in performance, quality, and cost.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to coach and inspire others.
  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills with a bias for action.
