Job summary

Transdev North America in Modesto, CA, seeks an Operations Manager to lead daily transit operations, supervise route activities and staff, and ensure service levels meet budgets and standards.

You will coach personnel, coordinate with the General Manager, and work with labor unions to resolve issues while complying with regulations.

This role requires strong leadership, clear communication, and the ability to analyze data to optimize routes and improve customer experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years of transit supervisory experience.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily operations of operators and coordinates staff.
  • Oversees scheduling of operators and monitors service delivery.
  • Works with labor unions on grievances and negotiations.
  • Analyzes data to identify trends and improve routes.
  • Tracks performance and resolves interdepartmental issues.
  • Makes hiring decisions for authorized roles and evaluates staff.
  • Assists in accident investigations and supports safety training.
  • Develops the operations department budget.
  • Ensures compliance with Company policies and regulations.

Overview

The Operations Manager reports directly to the General Manager in fulfilling daily operations including route supervision, staff and operator supervision, effective communication with internal and external customers, coaching employees for optimal performance, managing the entire operation in the absence of the General Manager, complying with all Company policies, and managing the operation within the budgetary plan for the location. Based in Modesto, CA, supporting the StanRTA.

Compensation
  • Minimum $83,000 – maximum $95,000 (Fixed Route Ops Mgr.)
Benefits
  • Vacation: minimum of two (2) weeks

  • Holidays: 12 days; 8 standard and 4 floating

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervises daily activities of all operators and coordinates the activities of supervisors, dispatch, and utility worker personnel.
  • Oversees scheduling of operators; monitors operations and coordinates delivery of service with superiors.
  • Work effectively with labor union; may include labor grievances and negotiations.
  • Analyze operational data to identify trends and areas for improvement to optimize routes and enhance the customer experience.
  • Track, compile and analyze performance; handle interdepartmental issues; resolve employee issues and grievances; improve processes and route scheduling.
  • Makes hiring decisions for authorized roles; evaluates the work performance of staff; ensures the timely and efficient completion of all assigned tasks.
  • Assists in accident/incident investigation, including any needed on-site assistance and support to safety and training personnel.
  • Coordinates with the safety and training department to meet all safety goals and directives.
  • Develop operations department budget.
  • May operate a vehicle in revenue service, if necessary.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required.
  • 3 or more years of relevant transit supervisory experience required.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to manage diverse teams and ensure effective service delivery.
  • Thorough knowledge of transit system regulations and operations.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and relevant database programs.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to details.
  • Ability to work effectively with labor; may include labor grievances and negotiations.
  • Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical test if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
  • Work environment will be a combination of both indoors and outdoors.
