Job summary

Transdev North America is seeking an Operations Manager in Chico, CA to lead daily operations and supervise staff and drivers under the BCAG contract. You will coach employees, ensure service quality, and maintain communication with internal and external customers.

This role requires industry knowledge, strong organizational skills, and adherence to safety standards. The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of transit supervisory experience, a Class B CDL with Passenger and Air brake

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • CDL Class B or higher with Passenger and Air brake endorsements or ability to obtain one.
  • 3+ years of relevant transit supervisory experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of transit regulations and operations.
  • Proficiency with Word/Excel and relevant database programs.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to organize work efficiently with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with labor, including grievances and negotiations.
  • Ability to work shifts/flexible schedules.
  • DOT drug testing and physical per applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily activities of all operators and coordinates supervisors and dispatch personnel.
  • Oversees scheduling of operators; monitors operations and coordinates service delivery with superiors.
  • Works with maintenance to ensure service requirements are met.
  • Tracks and analyzes performance; resolves staff issues; improves routing and processes.
  • Makes hiring decisions for authorized roles; evaluates staff performance; ensures timely task completion.
  • Assists in accident investigations and supports safety and training personnel.
  • Coordinates with safety and training to meet goals and directives.
  • Develops the operations department budget.
  • May operate a vehicle in revenue service if necessary.
  • Other duties as required.

Job description

The Operations Manager reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for daily operations, route supervision, staff and operator supervision, effective communication with internal and external customers, coaching employees for optimal performance, managing the entire operation in the absence of the General Manager, complying with all Company policies, and managing the operation within the budgetary plan. This position is based in Chico, CA and supports the BCAG contract.

Compensation

Competitive compensation package of minimum $70,300 – maximum $80,000.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervises daily activities of all operators and coordinates the activities of supervisors and dispatch personnel.
  • Oversees scheduling of operators; monitors operations and coordinates delivery of service with superiors.
  • Works closely with the maintenance department to ensure that all operation service requirements are met.
  • Tracks, compiles and analyzes performance; handles interdepartmental issues; resolves employee issues and grievances; improves processes and route scheduling.
  • Makes hiring decisions for authorized roles; evaluates staff performance; ensures timely and efficient completion of all assigned tasks.
  • Assists in accident/incident investigations, including any needed on-site assistance and support to safety and training personnel.
  • Coordinates with the safety and training department to ensure all safety goals and directives are met.
  • Develops operations department budget.
  • May operate a vehicle in revenue service, if necessary.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required.
  • Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger endorsement and Air brake endorsement required or the ability to obtain one.
  • 3 or more years of relevant transit supervisory experience required.
  • Thorough knowledge of transit system regulations and operations.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and relevant database programs.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to details.
  • Ability to work effectively with labor; may include labor grievances and negotiations.
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
