Job summary

Randall’s Island Park Alliance, Inc. is seeking an Operations Maintenance Worker to perform year-round maintenance and operations across Randall’s Island Park. The role is on-site, outdoors, and requires night, weekend, and holiday hours, with overtime as needed.

Responsibilities include cleaning, minor repairs, mowing, landscaping, amenity upkeep, and event support. The position reports to NYC Parks Supervisors and supports Icahn Stadium and other facilities as needed.

Qualifications

• Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather, under strenuous conditions.
• Ability to work holidays, evenings, and weekends and a fluctuating schedule.
• Ability to use light power equipment and hand tools.
• Ability to perform physical labor; must be able to lift 50lbs.
• Motivated and punctual, able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to shift priorities and focus, when needed.
• Ability to collaborate and create positive working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Operations department and assist the Lead Operations Maintenance Worker to perform daily upkeep and maintenance of recreational areas, parking lots, pathways, facilities and all areas throughout Randall’s Island Park.
• Perform regular janitorial and cleaning services at the Grounds Compound, Operations Compound, Nature Center and other assigned facilities.
• Mow, weed whack and trim grass areas that border play fields, roadways, and parking areas, as assigned.
• Amenity Maintenance (public comfort stations, picnic tables, garbage cans, benches, etc.).
• Remove trash from ball fields, parking areas, and surrounding areas.
• Assist with snow removal, storm cleanup and other inclement weather operations, when assigned.
• Painting, basic repair and general maintenance.
• Provide occasional guidance and training to seasonal staff members.
• Assist with event set-up and clean-up, as needed for RIPA programming and staff events.
• Assist with Icahn Stadium coverage and operational needs on occasion, when needed.
• Keep Park Supervisors informed regarding projects and tasks, flagging potential issues.
• Operate small and large equipment such as mowers, tractors, and utility vehicles.
• Ensure all equipment is secure and well-maintained; remove and store all equipment.
• Assist other departments, when needed.
• Perform all other general tasks as assigned.

Pay Range: $22.00-$24.00 / per hour

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Operations Maintenance Worker will perform a wide range of year-round maintenance and operational responsibilities to maintain, clean, and repair the amenities, comfort stations, recreation areas, facilities and general landscape of Randall’s Island Park, including janitorial services, minor repairs, event support and inclement weather response. The Operations Maintenance Worker will report to NYC Parks Supervisors and will work with other members of the Operations department. This position is required to work on-site, primarily outdoors, and must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather as operational needs require.
