Job summary

Ever-Green Energy seeks an Operations & Maintenance Engineer to manage heating and cooling plants at the Hennepin County Energy Center in Minneapolis. The role includes preventive and corrective maintenance, safety procedures, and data analysis of plant performance.

Join our smart and dedicated team as we work to advance and operate energy systems and apply for Operations and Maintenance Engineer position.

Reporting to the Operations Manager at the Hennepin County Energy Center (HCEC), the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Engineer is responsible for operations and maintenance of district heating and cooling plants, and supporting equipment and systems.

Minimum requirements to be successful in this role:

  • Two (2) years of plant operations and/or maintenance experience OR technical training in a related field.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Hold a valid State of Minnesota Second Class “A” or “B” Operating Engineer’s License, and be able to obtain a State of Minnesota First Class “A” Operating Engineer’s License within two (2) years of date of employment.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate plant heating and/or cooling equipment, steam turbines, pumps, and other auxiliary equipment in order to meet all customer demands for varying conditions.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform routine preventative and corrective maintenance to industrial equipment such as pumps, boilers, chillers, heat exchangers, valves, and other plant or related equipment.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, technical instructions and/or manuals, or other diagrams.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data, troubleshoot equipment and trends, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate heating, cooling, distribution, and related equipment in a safe, efficient manner, ensuring compliance with all pertinent regulations.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on plant equipment and systems as directed to maintain reliability and continuity of plant operations.
  • Perform inspections of plant equipment and systems, distribution piping, and facilities, in support of safety, regulatory compliance, and operations.
  • Perform equipment isolations and lockouts to assure a high degree of personnel safety and equipment protection in support of maintenance and operations.
  • Perform testing of system chemistry to ensure all steam and water systems are within normal prescribed chemistry bands.
  • Complete and maintain all plant operating logs, records, maintenance documentation and other supporting paperwork as necessary.

7. Perform general house-keeping activities such as: plant cleaning, painting and preservation of equipment and facilities, waste disposal, organization of

storage of materials and others as assigned.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The employee is frequently required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; push and pull objects; reach at/below shoulder level and reach overhead; stoop, kneel and crouch; climb ladders/ropes/scaffolding; use gross manipulation to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hands; use fine manipulation to pick or pinch objects with fingers; confined space; and use peripheral vision. Must be capable of maneuvering throughout industrial facilities such as energy plants and building HVAC mechanical rooms, etc.

This position involves working in a steam, hot water, and/or chilled water plant and/or its distribution system. While performing job duties, employees may occasionally encounter potential hazards, including fumes, airborne particles, high-pressure steam in piping or equipment, both hot and cold temperatures, and hazards associated with moving machinery. The work environment's noise level typically ranges from moderate to loud. Other potential hazards common to heating and cooling plants may include confined spaces, slippery surfaces, rotating equipment, chemical handling (e.g., water treatment chemicals), and burns. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and physical controls are in place as needed to mitigate these risks.

This is a union position with an hourly pay at $46.06 to $57.57 per the contract based on your license level.

This is an International Union of Operating Engineer Local Union No. 70 position. Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is also provided.
