Operations Engineering Lead
360 Energy | Austin, TX

Full-time, in office | Annual performance bonus | Reports to the VP of Operations

About 360 Energy

We don't wait in line for power. We build and operate compute factories behind the meter.

360 Energy is the leader in behind-the-meter compute: Bitcoin mining today and AI/HPC shortly. While the industry waits years in interconnect queues for someone else's grid capacity, we generate our own power in the oil field and turn stranded, flared, and underpriced energy directly into value. We procure, deploy, commission and operate infrastructure on behalf of our customers across oil and gas sites in three states (TX, WY, CO) and counting.

We're scaling fast: 30 MW (megawatts) deployed, 20 MW under construction, 400% growth in the last 18 months. Our team is small enough that there's nowhere to hide and nothing between a good decision and production. No committees. No layers. Calls you make on Monday show up in the numbers by Friday.

Behind-the-meter compute is the most competitive operating environment in energy. Speed, uptime, efficiency, and cost separate the winners from the losers. We intend to be the operator everyone else is measured against.

The Role

Own gas and electrical engineering across every 360 Energy site, and manage the field team that runs our gas systems and generators. You own the fleet from fuel gas supply through power delivery, keep it running safely and efficiently, and bring new sites online on budget and on schedule. This is not a remote position and requires the candidate to live in Austin, TX working from the corporate office.

What You'll Do
Engineering and Technical
  • Design site layouts and size fuel gas systems for new and expanding sites, including piping, pressure regulation, and controls.
  • Select and specify fuel gas equipment (regulators, valves, metering) and materials to suit flow, pressure, and gas quality.
  • Review the electrical interconnection between generation and compute loads to confirm it is sized and installed correctly.
  • Confirm that materials and consumables suit the operating conditions and gas quality.
  • Lead root cause analysis on equipment failures and drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Work with the VP of Operations to match compute load to generator capacity and runtime, and plan for changes on either side.
Field Operations and Team Leadership
  • Manage and develop the field team responsible for gas systems and generators across sites, and hold them to a high standard on safety and quality.
  • Know site status, open issues, and what needs attention first at any given time.
  • Reinforce strong reporting culture (daily logs and service reports) that the rest of the company can rely on.
  • Plan logistics for equipment moves, crew scheduling, and vendor support.
  • Own preventive maintenance across the fleet.
Performance and Data
  • Define and track operational KPIs (uptime, fuel efficiency, maintenance cost, failure rates) and report results to leadership.
  • Spot inefficiencies and lead process improvements across field work, maintenance, and reporting.
Project Execution and Cost Control
  • Build cost estimates and AFEs for new deployments and expansions, and manage budget and schedule through execution.
  • Run post-project lookbacks on cost and schedule to sharpen future estimates.
  • Track operations spend against budget, and approve purchases within delegated authority.
Procurement and Vendors
  • Own relationships with key equipment, parts, and service vendors, and negotiate pricing, lead times, and support terms.
  • Source replacement parts and qualify alternatives when availability or cost calls for it.
  • Keep critical spares on hand to minimize downtime.
Customers
  • Serve as the technical lead for customers from deployment through ongoing operations.
  • Join project kickoffs and regular customer meetings, with clear updates on performance, issues, and next steps.
  • Work through equipment and performance issues with customers, coordinating vendors and internal teams to reach resolution.
HSE and Regulatory
  • Set and enforce safety standards across all field operations.
  • Keep operations compliant with applicable safety, environmental, and industry regulations.
  • Manage air permitting with third-party consultants, along with required emissions controls.
What You Bring
Must Haves
  • Mechanical, petroleum, electrical or similar engineering degree
  • 3-5 years in oil and gas, power generation or mission-critical facility operations
  • Working knowledge of natural gas fuel systems, gas-fired generators or compressors
  • Working knowledge of electrical distribution and the interconnection between generation and load
  • Experience building cost estimates or AFEs and supporting projects through execution
  • Comfort turning large operational data sets into clear KPIs and reporting
  • Willingness to travel to field sites monthly (exclusively West Texas)
Nice to Haves
  • Experience in Facilities Engineering in oil & gas
  • Experience leading and working alongside field teams across multiple sites

  • A weekly KPI reporting cadence to leadership
