Job summary

Southwire Company, LLC in Denton offers College Programs to provide meaningful work for students pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher. Interns and co-ops gain real-world applications of their studies, coaching, and possible full-time opportunities after graduation.

The summer program runs May 17 to Aug 6, lasts 10–18 weeks, and includes onboarding, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration on sustainability and operations projects within W&C and the Rod Mill.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in sustainability, engineering, science, business, or related field.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Up-to-date awareness of sustainability issues, best practices, and trends.
  • Proven working experience in a team environment.
  • Experience in systems thinking and process management.
  • Strong organization, planning and analytical skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or other relevant tools.

Responsibilities

  • Research and identify alternatives, best practices, and solutions to sustainability challenges.
  • Assist in conducting cost-benefit analyses of potential sustainability initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to drive product and service innovation, improve the company's environmental footprint, and increase the use of renewable energy.
  • Support internal and external communication efforts to promote sustainability initiatives.
  • Collect data from internal and external sources to monitor progress towards key sustainability performance metrics.
  • Conduct research, analyze data, and present findings to support operation projects and process improvements.
  • Assist with the creation, development, and implementation of new or modified equipment, components, and systems.
  • Support data collection and analysis for root cause investigations and problem solve.
  • Assist in updating and creating operations documentation, standard operating procedures, and process flow diagrams.
  • Collaborate on continuous improvement projects to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance safety within manufacturing processes.
  • Perform time studies or capacity analyses to support production and process optimization efforts.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and other deliverables to communicate project progress and results.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams including maintenance, engineering, quality, and safety to drive project success.
  • Support internal and external communication efforts related to operation projects and initiatives.
  • Perform other operation-related duties as assigned.

Job Description

Job Summary/Objective:
The purpose of Southwire's College Programs is to help early career professionals bring together formal learning and

productive work to improve their ability to transition from school to work. Southwire provides interns and co-ops with

"real world" applications of their academic studies, helpful feedback and coaching, and consideration for employment

after graduation. Each student will have a variety of responsibilities and assigned projects that relate to their field of

study and be responsible for developing a timeline, progress updates, and final delivery in a senior leadership expo.

Note: All new interns and co-ops must begin in the summer rotation.

Key Responsibilities
* Your intern assignment is generally 10-12 weeks, and co-op assignment is generally 16-18 weeks and

will include an assigned project and opportunities to present your work.

* You will also collaborate on other exciting projects and work with talented peers and inspirational

leaders, many of whom began as interns and co-ops themselves.

* You will be provided a robust developmental experience through an immersive onboarding and

offboarding experience, assigned a mentor, networking opportunities, organized events, activities, and

community service /volunteer initiatives.

* You will have the opportunity to impact the future of the organization, all the while being exposed to

a world-class program community.

* Finally, our rising senior interns and co-ops are considered for full-time employment opportunities.

Project Summary

This position will support the Operations team in W&C and the Rod Mill by contributing to key projects and initiatives that align with Southwire's strategic goals. The ideal candidate is proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively. They should be eager to learn, demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, and possess excellent communication and analytical skills.
