Job summary

Life Link III is seeking an Operations Control Specialist to work from our Bloomington, MN office. You will help coordinate flights, ensure FAA compliance, and communicate with flight crews, PICs, weather services, and hospitals to support safe air medical transport.

Responsibilities include reviewing risk assessments, maintaining regulatory records, and providing real-time weather updates. The role requires overnight shifts and strong communication skills within a safety-focused team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of FAA and other regulatory requirements.
  • 2+ years' experience in aviation roles or related fields.
  • Professional and efficient written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret aviation weather information.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work scheduled overnight shifts.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and daily computer use.
  • Knowledgeable in air medical resource management.
  • Familiarity with CFR 14, 135, and Life Link III's GOM.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Communication Center Specialists and PICs when conditions indicate risk or weather-related concerns.
  • Verify the accuracy of FAA documents and maintain records per FAA requirements.
  • Review flight risk assessments with the pilot in command per applicable rules and regulations.
  • Monitor and oversee safe conduct of flight operations of the company's aircraft.
  • Coordinate services for flights in progress (fuel, hangar space, flight authorizations in restricted areas).
  • Provide weather updates to flights in progress.
  • Monitor crew duty time limitations, currency requirements, and aircraft status to ensure FAR compliance.
  • Maintain currency of operation manuals and regulatory requirements.
  • Understand and utilize radio, telephone, and other equipment updates as installed.
  • Support Safety Management System activities.
  • Anticipate and meet internal and external customer needs.
  • Deliver high-quality products and services; commit to continuous improvement.

Job description

The Operations Control Specialist (OCS) reports to the Operations Control Specialist Supervisor and works out of our Bloomington, MN office. The OCS is responsible to ensure all flights conducted by Life Link III meet established safety protocols and in compliance with FAA regulations. The OCS works in conjunction with Communication Specialists assuring coordination of all aspects of Life Link III transports. The OCS is responsible for communicating with flight crews, pilots in command (PIC), weather service, communication centers, hospitals, fixed-base operators (FBO), and other services.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of FAA and other regulatory requirements
  • 2+ years' experience as helicopter or airplane pilot, flight navigator, air traffic controller (ATC), meteorologist, or air ambulance communication center flight follower required
  • Professional and efficient written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret aviation weather information
  • Must be able to respond quickly and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to work scheduled overnight shifts
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications and daily computer use
  • Knowledgeable in the principles and applications of air medical resource management
  • Build a working knowledge of CFR 14, 135, and Life Link III's General Operations Manual (GOM)

Typical Duties

  • Coordinate with Communication Center Specialists and PICs when conditions indicate risk factors or weather place a base or area under risk
  • Verify the accuracy of all FAA documents and maintain records as defined by the FAA
  • Review all flight risk assessments as required with the pilot in command in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations
  • Monitor and oversee safe conduct of flight operations of the company's aircraft
  • Coordinate services needed for flights in progress (fuel, hangar space, flight authorizations through restricted areas)
  • Provide weather updates to flights in progress
  • Monitor crew duty time limitations, currency requirements, and aircraft status to assure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR)
  • Maintain currency of all operation manuals and regulatory requirements
  • Understand and utilize all appropriate features of radio, telephone equipment, and other equipment updates as they are installed
  • Responsible for supporting company's Safety Management System activities
