Job Description

Under the direction and leadership of the Operations and Event Services Coordinator, Operations Assistants oversee daily operations of the University Center footprint—Mary Graydon Center, Butler Pavilion, Residence Hall Formal Lounges, Quad, Amphitheater, and outdoor tabling locations—providing support during evening and weekend hours and in the absence of professional staff.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee daily building operations with a focus on cleanliness, maintenance, event and meeting set‑up/break‑down, and security of building occupants.
  • Verify and perform setup equipment as described on the set‑up report.
  • Anticipate future setups and prepare in advance when possible.
  • Assist event coordinators with additional or requested program needs.
  • Know the daily workflow and events in the campus footprint.
  • Answer the main information line and direct calls to appropriate parties.
  • Assist staff, faculty, students, and guests at the information desk.
  • Oversee information tabling procedures.
  • Maintain updated Operations Assistant Reports highlighting issues in maintenance, custodial, meeting and event information, attendance counts, student personnel, and building rounds.
  • Serve as a resource for the campus, providing information, directions, and exemplary customer service.
  • Proactively establish policies and make appropriate recommendations in collaboration with the Coordinator.
  • Assist in managing and hanging advertisements in designated areas.
  • Know the University Center footprint, including information, set‑ups, offices, and AV needs.
  • Respond to emergency situations, disturbances, and alarms; coordinate with staff or Public Safety when necessary.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures at the start and end of each day, if applicable.
  • Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the Operations Assistant handbook.
  • Stay alert and informed on university events and procedures to provide the highest level of service.
  • Perform other duties assigned by University Center staff.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings as directed.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
  • Part‑time
  • 10–12 hours per week
Salary Range

$18.40 per hour

Required Education and Experience
  • Dedicated student with strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks and personal/school life.
  • Quick learner who can acquire necessary knowledge and skills through training.
  • Organized, analytical, and detail‑oriented.
  • Willingness to uphold policies and procedures in building and event spaces.
  • Ability to exercise authority and judgment in the absence or presence of the Coordinator.
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong sense of personal and professional integrity, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Willingness to represent the University effectively in important situations.
  • Knowledge of University Center policies and procedures related to the footprint and events.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Good academic standing.
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate student with a valid university email address.
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Flexibility to work mornings, nights, and weekends for 10–12 hours per week.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Customer service, positivity, patience, flexibility, and can‑do attitude.
