Job Description

Montgomery College, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, has animmediate need for a FT Operations and Maintenance Leads. The workschedule is 5 days/40 hours a week. The Takoma Park/Silver Springposition is Monday - Friday from 6:30am to 3pm. This is anon-bargaining, non-exempt, grade 27 position. For non-exemptpositions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job atMontgomery College. FT Operations and Maintenance Leads are responsible for leading andperforming work associated with the effective and efficientoperation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and buildingheating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC).Responsibilities include monitoring and executing work assignmentsor special projects including instructing and guiding staff,inspecting completed work, and maintaining work records.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provide guidance and instruction to assigned staff engaged inproviding mechanical, building automation control systems, and HVACservices.
  • Monitor, inspect, and review work of assigned staff to ensurework is performed according to established standards. Identify thetraining needs of staff and coordinate/conduct in-housetraining.
  • Perform routine tasks associated with maintenance and repair ofmechanical equipment including heating and air-conditioningsystems, controls, and related subsystems and components.
  • Ensure Direct Digital Controls systems are properly calibratedand operate as designed.
  • Perform operational tests of new and existing system commandand control points.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and serviced according toequipment manufacturer’s requirements and that all mechanical roomsare safely maintained.
  • Respond to customers concerns and resolve issues. Coordinatecontract services and monitor the work of contractors.
  • Identify issues and challenges within the unit and developstrategies to resolve.
  • Identify materials and equipment needed to perform duties andthe type and/or quantities required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED or completion of a vocationalprogram in the building heating and cooling trade or equivalenttraining.
  • 5 years’ experience in the facilities maintenance fieldincluding 1-year experience in a team lead or foreman role.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training,certification and/or experience that provides the requiredknowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of thejob may be considered.
  • Section 608 Universal Certification (EPA) - EPA Section 608Universal certification.
  • HVAC Journeyman License OR Maryland Stationary Engineer 3rdgrade license - Maryland Board of HVAC.
  • Working knowledge of the methods, techniques, procedures,standard practices, tools and materials common to HVAC repair,maintenance, and installation.
  • Ability to understand, troubleshoot and repair complexmechanical and building automation systems as well as stand-alonemechanical equipment.
  • Ability to comprehend mechanical drawings, specifications,sketches, and work orders, preparing material lists andspecifications. Ability to use hand tools and testing equipmentemployed in the HVAC trade.
  • Ability to instruct, train, and work cooperatively with othersas well as communicate effectively and follow written and verbalinstructions.

Hiring Range:

$32.48 - $42.22 per hour. Initial salaryplacement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint ofthe range and is based on relevant candidate experience andinternal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $51.96per hour.

For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your educationequivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluationservice, must be included in your application.
