Job summary

UMBC invites applications for an Operations and Communications Coordinator for the Institute for Harnessing Data and Model Revolution in the Polar Regions (iHARP). Reporting to the Center Director, you will coordinate day-to-day operations and Center communications with collaborators on and off campus.

The role requires a bachelor's degree, at least three years in project management or communications, and strong written and verbal skills, plus proficiency with Google Workspace.

Position Overview:

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking an Operations and Communications Coordinator for the Institute for Harnessing Data and Model Revolution in the Polar Regions (iHARP). Reporting to the Center Director and working closely with on- and off-campus collaborators, the incumbent will be responsible for the coordination of operations and communications for the iHARP research center.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinating day-to-day center administrative operations and resolve routine operational issues within established policies and procedures, escalating matters requiring leadership or central office decisions
  • Serving as an operational resource for students, researchers, fellows, faculty, and non-UMBC partners by responding to routine questions regarding payroll, travel, events, conference registration, center communications, and administrative requirements
  • Coordinating facilities work orders, building access requests, and monitoring and reporting on sensitive/capital inventory
  • Serving as primary administrative liaison among UMBC faculty, OCAM, subawardee institutions, and external collaborators
  • Coordinating scheduling, administrative follow-up, and tracking of multi-institutional activities, deliverables, timelines, and reporting requirements
  • Planning and coordinating workshops, conferences, scientific meetings, and related program activities, including schedules, speakers, venues, travel/logistics, promotional materials, participant communications, and post-event documentation
  • Preparing, processing, and tracking routine reimbursements, stipends, purchases, travel, and procurement documentation using, PAW, p-card, PeopleSoft Finance, FADS, and/or successor systems
  • Completing additional administrative projects as assigned to support iHARP and OCAM priorities
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years of experience in project management, communications, and business administration or in a related field.
  • Applicants should have strong written and verbal communication and customer-service skills, strong computer skills, and the ability to learn new administrative systems.
  • The ideal candidate will have proven problem-solving and organization skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment within established policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and related tools

Salary:

Salary: $62,000 - $70,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
