Job summary

The George and Betsy Sherman Center at UMBC seeks an Assistant Director of Innovation and STEM Ecosystems to lead the Maryland Invention Convention, build statewide and regional partnerships, and strengthen STEM education and career pathways for educators, young inventors, and scholars.

The role includes growing and maintaining relationships, overseeing the state competition, and providing professional development for educators, with a focus on diversity and inclusion.

The Assistant Director of Innovation and STEM Ecosystems will lead the Maryland Invention Convention, build statewide and regional partnerships, and strengthen STEM education and career pathways for educators, young inventors, and scholars.

Responsibilities:

• Grow and maintain relationships on behalf of Maryland Invention Convention.
• Oversee Maryland Invention Convention State Competition.
• Provide support and professional development for educators.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher required
• 2+ years in STEM and/or innovation/invention education
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to diversity and low-income communities
• Budget and/or grant writing experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Coursework in education, innovation education, or STEAM education
• Experience working with families and students from a variety of backgrounds
• 1-2 Years experience in program development, curriculum development, or training development
• Volunteer recruitment and management
• Bilingual English-Spanish
• The ideal candidate is highly organized, execution-oriented, and passionate about expanding access to hands-on, student-centered K–12 innovation and invention programming

Salary:

Salary: $72,000 - $81,000depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
