Job summary

UMBC is seeking an Assistant Director for Facility & Operations to lead the Retriever Activities Center’s day-to-day operations, schedule events, and coordinate campus collaborations. This on-site role requires a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to support events and safety measures.

The ideal candidate will hold a relevant Bachelor's degree with 3+ years in facility or recreation operations, strong leadership, and experience supervising staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, sports management, facility management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in facility operations, recreation management, athletics, or event operations.
  • Experience supervising professional and/or student staff.
  • Experience using facility scheduling and operational management software.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management practices and event operations.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.

Position Overview

The Assistant Director for Facility & Operations for the Retriever Activities Center oversees facility operations, event scheduling, and maintenance coordination. Works to ensure recreation spaces are safe, functional, and prepared to support programs, events, and campus users.

Work Schedule

This position is a on-site role that requires a highly flexible schedule with regular evening and weekend availability to support facility operations, staffing coverage, special events, and emergency response needs.

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree preferably in recreation, sports management, facility management, higher education, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in facility operations, recreation management, athletics, or event operations.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising professional and/or student staff.
  • Experience utilizing facility scheduling and operational management software systems.
  • Strong functional knowledge of risk management practices and event operations.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities and operational demands
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in recreation, sports management, facility management, higher education, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in collegiate recreation or athletic facilities.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Certified Pool Operator certification or ability to obtain upon hire.

Salary

Salary: $71,000 - $80,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
