Job summary

Qualifications

  • College degree or commensurate experience in accounting or business.
  • Minimum two years of experience in compliance/audit or retail servicing.
  • Familiarity with FCRA, FDCPA, CFPB and CDIA Metro 2 guidelines preferred.
  • Experience with consumer lending preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel (tested).
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify new compliance requirements and implement changes.

Responsibilities

  • Research, investigate, and resolve credit reporting disputes promptly and accurately.
  • Interpret payment history and verify loan data, including postings and balances.
  • Use CRAs systems to respond to disputes (ACDV via e-OSCAR).
  • Issue written findings for direct disputes and send via mail.
  • Update accounts and submit research results to Credit Reporting Agencies (CRA).
  • Maintain accurate follow-up notes across multiple software systems.
  • Assist with regulatory audits and coordinate requested documentation.
  • Work with outside vendors (law firms, collection agencies) for account requests.
  • Locate debtors, identify assets, and propose suitable actions.
  • Monitor and implement new regulatory requirements and establish controls.

Job description

The Default Compliance Analyst is responsible for ensuring accurate credit bureau reporting, resolving credit reporting disputes and inquiries, and maintaining detailed documentation of dispute research, account updates, and resolutions. This role monitors and supports compliance with applicable local, state, federal and industry regulations, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) requirements, and CDIA Metro 2 Guidelines. The Analyst also works closely with internal teams and outside vendors, including law firms and collection agencies, to locate debtors, identify assets, support collection activity, and recommend accounts for appropriate legal or agency action. Successful candidates typically demonstrate strong Excel, organizational, problem-solving, communication, and time management skills. A hybrid work schedule may be available after successful completion of training.

Qualifications

  • Must have intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel; (candidate will be tested on Excel).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, including the ability to conduct independent research and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to implement identified changes and monitor ongoing compliance with those changes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to identify new compliance requirements and department compliance‑improvement opportunities, develop solutions, and support implementation.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Overtime may be required, as needed.
  • Minimal travel may be required for training.
Principal Activities/Objectives
  • Research, investigate, and resolve direct and indirect credit reporting disputes in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Interpret payment history and verify loan data, including posted payments, account balances, and requests for adjustments.
  • Use the Credit Reporting Agency system, e-OSCAR, to respond to indirect disputes through Automated Consumer Dispute Verification (ACDV).
  • Investigate and respond to direct disputes by issuing written findings through postal mail.
  • Update accounts as needed and submit research results to Credit Reporting Agencies (CRA).
  • Maintain accurate follow-up notes and documentation across multiple software systems.
  • Perform administrative duties necessary to service and/or collect accounts.
  • Work with outside vendors, including law firms and collection agencies, to provide support, direction, and follow-up regarding account requests.
  • Locate debtors, identify assets, and recommend accounts for appropriate legal action or agency placement.
  • Proactively monitor, identify, and implement new or updated regulatory requirements and establish controls to support ongoing compliance.
  • Manage special projects assigned by management, including creating timelines, tracking Progress, and ensuring completion within allotted timeframes.
  • Ensure required compliance training is completed on a calendared basis for critical compliance topics.
  • Assist with regulatory audit examinations conducted by internal audit and external parties, including coordinating requested documentation, organizing materials, and supporting presentation of documentation.
