Job summary

Tufts Medicine is seeking a Surgical Services support role focused on medical and clinical assistance for patients undergoing procedures in a fast-paced OR setting. This role emphasizes room turnover, equipment setup, and safe handling of blood products, specimens, and sterile supplies.

You will work under general supervision with an emphasis on safety, efficiency, and collaboration with the clinical care team, CPD, and Environmental Services.

• Knowledge of universal precautions, asepsis, and sterile technique.

Responsibilities

• Assists Environmental Services with room turnover and setup of specialized equipment.
• Transports patients and equipment to and from OR and other areas of the hospital.
• Transports blood products and specimens between locations.
• Assists in transferring patients from OR table to bed under supervision.
• Ensures OR tables and positioning devices are secured for procedures.
• Assists in patient positioning for surgical procedures and skin prep.
• Maintains cleanliness and order in procedural areas and ensures access to gas panels and extinguishers.
• Monitors and exchanges medical gas tanks safely and responds to alarms.
• Re-stocks and maintains fluids and linen in OR areas with proper labeling.
• Returns carts, kits, and scopes to Central Processing and assists with decontamination as needed.
• Maintains biohazard sharps containers and uses soiled utility room for clean bins when required.
• Adheres to JCAHO, CMS, DPH, and HIPAA regulations.
• Rotates through oriented procedural units and supports process-improvement initiatives.
• Responds to Vocera calls and logs into groups at shift start.
• Meets on-call requirements and clocks in within 45 minutes of call.
• Demonstrates knowledge of OR tables and equipment and assists the clinical care team as needed.
• Performs general maintenance of linen, trash, and recycling receptacles.
