Down East Community Hospital is seeking a Surgical Services Support Technician to help maintain clean and safe operating rooms and procedure areas. The role supports turnover, equipment handling, supply coordination, and specimen transport to promote efficient surgical operations and patient care.

The position requires a high school diploma, prior healthcare experience preferred, and knowledge of infection prevention.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred: hospital or healthcare experience.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and sanitation practices preferred.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Performs thorough cleaning and sanitization of operating rooms, procedure rooms, and related areas between cases and at day end according to infection control policies.
• Assists with room turnover to ensure timely preparation for scheduled procedures.
• Transports specimens to the laboratory promptly following safety protocols.
• Assists with stocking and organizing surgical supplies and linens.
• Moves equipment, stretchers, and case carts as directed.
• Assists with waste removal, including regulated medical waste, per OSHA and hospital guidelines.
• Maintains cleanliness of sub-sterile rooms, storage areas, and corridors.
• Responds to urgent cleaning needs during and after procedures.
• Reports equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to appropriate personnel.
