Job summary

Memorial Hospital of Carbondale is seeking an Operating Room Assistant - Transporter to support the perioperative team with patient transport and OR turnover. You will assist with room preparation, infection prevention, supply management and coordinating with ancillary departments to keep procedures running smoothly.

The role requires readiness to assist with instrument pulling, specimen handling, and daily stock management, contributing to safe and efficient surgical care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Greets, escorts, and transports patients to and from surgical areas in a courteous and professional manner.
• Assists surgical staff with operating room turnover, including room preparation between cases.
• Performs damp dusting in operating rooms prior to procedures to support infection prevention standards.
• Cleans surgical rooms, including changing linens on inpatient beds as needed.
• Assists with pulling surgical instruments and preparing rooms for upcoming procedures or the following day.
• Handles and transports surgical specimens to the laboratory per protocols.
• Monitors portable oxygen tanks and replaces empty tanks as necessary.
• Promotes cost-effective practices through appropriate use of supplies and equipment handling.
• Retrieves blood products from the Blood Bank following procedures.
• Removes trash from surgical areas and coordinates with Sterile Processing and EVS.
• Stocks and refills blanket warmers and inner core supplies to ensure case readiness.
