Job summary

Institutional Investment Platform, Private Equity is seeking a Managing Director, Energy Transition / Operating Partner to lead a concentrated portfolio of US renewable energy investments in New York. You will operate between investment teams and portfolio-company leadership, translating operating insight into strategic investor-ready decisions.

You will work with CEOs and boards to shape performance, policy, and capital needs, guiding growth, capital allocation, and realization strategies

Qualifications

• 15+ years across renewable energy, energy transition or power infrastructure.
• Significant operating experience within solar, wind and storage.
• C-suite or equivalent senior leadership within a renewable developer, IPP, asset owner/operator or investment firm.
• Strong understanding of renewable development businesses, value creation and capital allocation.
• Experience working with boards, investors and senior management teams.
• Experience in an institutional-investor-backed environment strongly preferred.

The Company

Our client is a leading institutional investment platform with an established presence across energy transition and infrastructure.

The firm has a significant portfolio of renewable energy investments across the US, including development platforms and operating businesses spanning distributed generation solar, utility-scale renewables and battery storage.

The business is looking to add a senior operating executive to work alongside its investment team and portfolio-company leadership as it continues to manage, optimize and ultimately realize value across the portfolio.

The Opportunity

This is a senior operating and investment-facing role focused on a concentrated portfolio of US Energy Transition businesses.

The successful candidate will sit between the investment team and portfolio-company leadership, bringing hands-on operating experience into strategic planning, board discussions, capital allocation, performance management and realization.

The individual will be expected to understand how renewable businesses actually operate, challenge management teams where appropriate, identify opportunities to protect and create value, and translate that operating perspective into decisions that make sense for investors.

They will work closely with CEOs, C-suite executives, boards and investment professionals, often in situations where influence and alignment are more important than direct control.

Qualifications

• 15+ years across renewable energy, energy transition or power infrastructure.
• Significant operating experience within solar, wind and storage
• C-suite or equivalent senior leadership experience within a renewable developer, IPP, asset owner/operator or investment firm.
• Strong understanding of renewable development businesses, value creation and capital allocation.
• Significant experience working with boards, investors and senior management teams.
• Strong commercial and financial judgment.
• Experience with major strategic transactions including capital raises, M&A, recapitalizations, exits or joint ventures.
• Proven ability to influence without direct control.
• Experience in an institutional-investor-backed environment strongly preferred.
• Operating Partner, Portfolio Executive or similar fund-side experience advantageous.
• Strong executive presence and credibility with both operators and investors.
