Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an Operating Group Quality Director to strategically manage quality across the operating group and ensure the Quality System is fully implemented. Responsibilities include leading the quality program, mentoring leaders, and driving cross-functional collaboration with suppliers, trade partners, and project teams. Travel up to 50% may be required as projects span multiple sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years in Engineering or Construction as a Lead Quality Manager.
  • Experience in a Design/Build environment.
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts.
  • Knowledge of quality systems like Baldrige, ISO 9000:2015, Army Corps of Engineers, ASQ, Lean/Kaizen.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% or more.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Operating Group towards continuous quality improvement and resolve technical issues with suppliers, trade partners, customers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Lead and mentor Quality Managers, Operating Group Leadership, PXs/PMs, and Supervisors.
  • Develop and manage the Group Quality System aligned with company objectives.
  • Oversee training on Quality System and processes for all personnel.
  • Monitor and drive Group Quality performance and data collection.
  • Lead quality initiatives including root cause, trend analysis and corrective actions for significant issues.

Job description

Summary

Mortenson is currently seeking a Operating Group Quality Director that is responsible for strategically managing quality within an operating group and ensuring the system is fully implemented and operating in accordance with group and company requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Lead Operating Group towards continuous quality improvement including ability to resolve technical issues with suppliers, trade partners, customers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Lead, oversee and serve as a resource for Quality Managers, Operating Group Leadership, PXs/PMs, and Superintendents
  • Proven ability to resolve cross-cultural conflict in a culturally appropriate way
  • Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and influence others at all levels of the organization and with external partners to drive results
  • Lead the vision, definition, implementation, and management of the Quality System for the Group to ensure alignment with the company’s Quality System, objectives, and goals
  • Lead and manage the group’s training on the Quality System and processes for all personnel
  • Lead setting the standards for and monitoring Group Quality performance
  • Lead Group wide dashboard and Quality data collection, reporting, and analysis
  • Establish and lead quality initiatives for the group including the Group’s identification, documentation, root cause and trend analysis and corrective action system for significant Quality Issues/Events including call back and warranty issues.
  • Oversees the group’s Quality incident reporting, root cause analysis, and preventative actions
  • Develops leaders through active career sponsorship and providing the right responsibilities and work assignments to cultivate growth and development
  • Support and encourages team member career learning and development
  • Coaches and mentors, the project teams
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management is preferred, or equivalent experience is required. Advanced degrees will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience within Engineering or Construction industry as a Lead Quality Manager.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a Design/Build environment
  • Current driver’s license
  • Excellent understanding of construction processes, systems, project management, costs, and financial risks
  • Strong knowledge of design and construction contracts
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in quality systems like Malcolm Baldrige, ISO 9000:2015, Army Corps of Engineers, ASQ, Lean/Kaizen, or similar
  • Demonstrated understanding of A/E business and client’s business interest
  • Ability to travel up to, some months 50% or more to visit the Operating Group projects supported by this role

The base pay range for this role is $136,600 - $205,00 (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
