Job summary

General Machine & Boring Inc in Brighton, MI is seeking a skilled Boring Mill Operator to join our precision machining team. The role focuses on setting up and operating horizontal or vertical boring mills to produce tight-tolerance metal parts.

You will read blueprints, select tooling, monitor feeds and speeds, perform in-process inspections, and document production records in a fast-paced, air-conditioned shop.

Qualifications

• Reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints and drawings.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools and inspection techniques.
• Understanding speeds, feeds, and metal cutting principles.
• Experience with horizontal/vertical boring mills; CNC experience a plus.

Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate horizontal or vertical boring mills to machine metal parts to tight tolerances
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machining specifications
• Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and attachments for each job
• Monitor feeds, speeds, and cutting conditions to ensure optimal performance and part quality
• Perform in-process inspection using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges
• Maintain and perform basic preventive maintenance on boring mill equipment
• Document production records and report any quality or equipment issues to supervision

Requirements:

• Proven experience operating horizontal mills in a machine shop environment
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and engineering drawings
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools and quality inspection techniques
• Strong understanding of speeds, feeds, and metal cutting principles
• Experience with manual and/or CNC boring mill operations preferred, Mastercam programming a plus.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs in a shop environment
