Job summary

General Machine & Boring Inc is seeking a skilled Boring Mill Operator to join our Brighton, MI team. This hands-on role focuses on precision and quality, operating horizontal and vertical boring mills to meet tight tolerances and reading complex blueprints.

You will install tooling and fixtures, monitor cutting conditions, and perform in-process inspections with precision gauges. The team emphasizes accuracy, reliability, and a fit within our shop culture.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret mechanical blueprints and drawings to determine specs.
• Perform in-process inspection using precision measuring tools.
• Operate horizontal or vertical boring mills with attention to tolerances.
• Understand speeds, feeds, and metal cutting principles.
• Experience with CNC boring mill operations is a plus.

General Machine & Boring Inc is looking for a skilled Boring Mill Operator to join our team in Brighton, MI! Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate horizontal or vertical boring mills to machine metal parts to tight tolerances
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machining specifications
• Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and attachments for each job
• Monitor feeds, speeds, and cutting conditions to ensure optimal performance and part quality
• Perform in-process inspection using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges
• Maintain and perform basic preventive maintenance on boring mill equipment
• Document production records and report any quality or equipment issues to supervision

Requirements:

• Proven experience operating horizontal mills in a machine shop environment
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and engineering drawings
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools and quality inspection techniques
• Strong understanding of speeds, feeds, and metal cutting principles
• Experience with manual and/or CNC boring mill operations preferred, Mastercam programming a plus.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs in a shop environment
