Job summary

General Machine & Boring Inc in Brighton, MI is seeking a skilled Boring Mill Operator to join our precision machining team. The role focuses on setting up and operating horizontal or vertical boring mills to produce tight-tolerance metal parts.

You will read blueprints, select tooling, monitor feeds and speeds, perform in-process inspections, and document production records in a fast-paced, air-conditioned shop.

Qualifications

• Reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints and drawings.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools and inspection techniques.
• Understanding speeds, feeds, and metal cutting principles.
• Experience with horizontal/vertical boring mills; CNC experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate horizontal or vertical boring mills to machine metal parts to tight tolerances.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machining specifications.
• Select and install tooling, fixtures, and attachments for each job.
• Monitor feeds, speeds, and cutting conditions for optimal performance and part quality.
• Perform in-process inspection using micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges.
• Maintain and perform basic preventive maintenance on boring mill equipment.
• Document production records and report quality or equipment issues to supervision.
