Job summary

The City and County of San Francisco seeks a Permit Technician I to support Inspection Services. Under direct supervision, you will receive and review permit applications for completeness, schedule inspections, accept calls, assist customers in person, by phone and email, and process payments for services.

This temporary role supports the OpenGov permitting system rollout, testing new processes, and coordinating with inspectors.

Qualifications

  • Two years of verifiable clerical experience including interacting with the public.
  • Experience maintaining a variety of records and/or documents and filing.
  • Experience using common office equipment and handling mail.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule inspections, and screen/cirect calls to staff.
  • Assist customers in person, by phone and email; process payments for services.
  • Resolve routine issues; refer complex matters to appropriate staff.
  • Support hearings; prepare notices of violation and related mailings.
  • Review and process applications for boilers, homeowner permits, and extensions.
  • Monitor specialized email accounts and respond as appropriate.
  • Assist and interact with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Balance monetary transactions and perform fee collection.
  • Generate and maintain various records and documents.
