Job summary

City and County of San Francisco seeks a Permit Technician I under direct supervision to perform a wide range of clerical, administrative and basic technical duties. Responsibilities include reviewing building-related permit applications, issuing permits, and providing permit information to the public.

This temporary exempt role supports the OpenGov permitting system transition and requires coordination with Inspectors and staff.

Qualifications

• Two years of verifiable clerical experience interacting with the public and maintaining records.
• Experience with processing payments and handling inquiries is preferred.
• Substitution options include clerical training or college coursework.
• Applicants may be required to verify education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Schedules inspections and screens calls for Inspections Services staff.
• Assist customers in person, by phone and email and process payments.
• Resolve routine problems and refer complex issues as needed.
• Support hearing processes and prepare related notices and orders.
• Process applications for boilers, homeowner permits, and extensions.
• Monitor email accounts and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Collect fees and balance monetary transactions.
• Generate and maintain records and documents.
