Job summary

The BioJupyter initiative at UC Berkeley's OSPO seeks an OS-RSE to advance open source research software, collaborate with scientists, and shape multi-disciplinary data science tooling. You will lead design, implement reusable components, and contribute across GitHub, CI/CD, and science workflows, enabling reproducible, AI-enabled research.

Qualifications

• Advanced programming skills with Python and related libraries.
• Strong visual and interaction design craftsmanship for technical software.
• Experience building collaborative workflows enabling trustworthy, reproducible research.

Responsibilities

• Apply advanced software and product design concepts to plan, design, develop, and evaluate complex software solutions.
• Work with domain scientists to identify friction in research workflows and translate findings into requirements.
• Develop reusable frontend components and establish design principles for multidisciplinary workflows.
• Prepare and maintain user and developer documentation; set and communicate technical requirements.
