Description:

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University ofHouston's Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine invitesapplications for a non-tenure track faculty position at any rank(Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate, or Clinical Professor) inthe field of Physiology. As a member of our dynamic team, thefaculty member will play a crucial role in shaping the nextgeneration of medical professionals. This position offers anexciting opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking institutioncommitted to innovative medical education and research.

The faculty member is expected to support the design and deliveryof physiology content in an integrated, cross-disciplinary, activelearning-based curriculum.

Applicants must possess a PhD in physiology (or related discipline)or an MD/DO degree, with experience in undergraduate medicaleducation or health professions educational settings. Currently,all faculty positions in the College of Medicine are offered on anon-tenure track basis.

Salary and rank commensurate with experience.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and teach integrated medical physiology content toundergraduate medical students, utilizing traditional, interactive,and active learning modalities.
  • Develop and deliver a horizontally and vertically integratedpre-clerkship curriculum within faculty teams.
  • Develop both formative and summative assessments for physiologyand integrated biomedical sciences content.
  • Participate in accreditation activities.
  • Supervise student scholarly projects and serve as an advisor tomedical students.
  • Participate in the interview and selection process of College ofMedicine (COM) faculty and students.
  • Pursue research and produce scholarly works.
  • Hold membership on College of Medicine and Universitycommittees.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Terminal degree: PhD in physiology, MD, DO, or a relatedfield.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and engaging healthprofessional students, which may include oversight of classroom,clinical, or laboratory learning environments
  • Evidence of publications or scholarly works appropriate for theacademic rank being sought.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based teaching bestpractices, including the integration of active learning strategiesand innovative pedagogical methods to enhance student engagementand success in medical education.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, includingthe capacity to collaborate effectively with students, faculty,staff, and diverse stakeholders to foster a positive, andsupportive educational environment.
  • Demonstrated record of effective teamwork, including the abilityto lead initiatives, work collaboratively within multidisciplinaryteams, and contribute to the advancement of institutionalgoals.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide academic guidance and mentoringto health professional students, supporting their success andprofessional growth.

Applicants must have a PhD, MD or DO, dependent on the position,from an accredited institution. Official transcripts are requiredfor faculty appointment and will be requested upon selection of thefinal candidate(s). Physician applicants must possess anunrestricted Texas Medical License and board certification in theirspecialty. While exceptions may be considered, approval must beobtained from the Vice Dean of Education and/or the Dean of theCollege of Medicine and the Office of the Provost. All positionswithin the University of Houston System are security sensitive andwill require a criminal history check. Physician applicants arerequired to provide documentation of current licensure and boardcertification as part of their application materials.

Employees are expected to have a home address in the state ofTexas for the duration of their appointments.

Official transcripts are required for a faculty appointment andwill be requested upon selection of the final candidates.
