The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine invites applications from individuals with a record of innovative biomedical research and interest, experience, and enthusiasm for teaching in an integrated curriculum with a team of biomedical and clinical faculty.
Candidates must be enthusiastic about teaching and possess the desire to develop skills in this area. Experience with case-based teaching in a non-lecture format is preferred.
The successful hire will advance the missions of the UNE Center for Cell Signaling Research ( CCSR ; https://www.une.edu/research/center-cell-signaling-research ) and COM by developing a strong and collaborative research program in cellular signaling mechanisms or complementary areas relevant to health, disease, and therapeutic innovation. A goal for this position is to have the successful candidate develop the capacity to serve as one of the next generation of Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence ( COBRE ) Research Project Leaders (RPLs). The researcher will contribute to a vibrant interdisciplinary research environment that integrates biomedical discovery with the educational focus of UNE . The successful applicant will be offered a start-up package to establish their research program at the university, including but not limited to laboratory space and reassign time to foster success of research endeavors.
Candidates for the tenure-track would have responsibilities in research, teaching, and university/college/departmental services. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent, novel research program, display a commitment to excellence in teaching by participating in medical student teaching. Continuation of funding is required for this track. Candidates with research interests in a biomedical science topic as it relates to cell signaling, aging, or metabolism, particularly in relation to human disease, are preferred. UNE has strengths in neuroscience, with a collaborative group of neuroscience investigators examining the neurobiology of pain across a variety of pre-clinical models, using sophisticated imaging, molecular, and behavioral analyses. Additional strengths in research include anatomy, cell signaling, metabolic diseases, immunology and infectious diseases, and medical education. Research space is available, with access to shared instrumentation and core facilities with highly-trained staff for comprehensive imaging and histology approaches, behavioral analysis, and in vitro analytical services.

The candidate’s research program should complement and enhance the diverse biomedical research underway in the CCSR . The CCSR is funded by a phase 1 NIH Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence ( COBRE ) award, and provides research infrastructure, funding, and professional development mentoring for COBRE Research Project Leaders (RPLs) and the larger UNE research community. The candidate will also have the opportunity to take advantage of several competitive internal funding programs supporting new project development.
